A week in Paris

Last week I jumped on a plane to Paris to get away for the week. Back to summer and 32*c weather, back to the city of lights, back to macarons, baguettes, and red wine. My trip didn’t have the best start, a mix of a colder nordic climate, in-flight air condition, and an extremely warm Paris gave me a fever for the first two days of my trip, so my trip really started on my third day, Wednesday, which was the same day as I switched hotels to the beautiful Hotel Chavanel right in the center of the city. What a lovely place to stay! I got the junior suite of this boutique hotel, which consisted of a beautiful bedroom-livingroom space, a desk (which comes very much in handy as a travel blogger) and a huge bathroom with a gorgeous big shower and a huge bubble bathtub. What more can you ask for in a home away from home?

Loving Lisbon

Our European mini-tour continued in Lisboa (you can read all about our 12-hour stay in Amsterdam here). Coming from rainy and cloudy weather in the Netherlands, it was quite nice feeling the 34*+ celsius degree weather right away when leaving the airplane. We rented an AirBnb-apartment in the Mouraria-area, a colorful and multicultural area of Lisbon close to the city center, Saint George’s Castle and Alfama (the heart of the historic fado-movement).

This was the perfect timing to visit Lisboa since we got to experience Portugal winning the Euro 2016 football championship with the whole city watching in excitement at the main city square. We also went to the Nos Alive Festival  – one of Europes biggest music festivals located at Passeio Maritimo de Alges, right by the beach. A perfect getaway 20 minutes away from the city center.

Groeten uit Amsterdam

I recently spent around 12(!) hours in Amsterdam, and what an amazing city it is! The canals, the crooked, narrow apartment buildings (Amsterdam is sinking y’all!) and the uber cool bicycle scene is just some of the stunning scenery this capital has to offer. This is by all means not an ultimate travel guide since we only spent half a day here, but I wanted to share the areas and places I went to since our stay was very successful.

Eat: A delicious, healthy breakfast at Greenwoods, right by the canals in Singel street. This place whipped up one of the best chicken and avocado sandwiches I’ve ever tried.

Stay: At the W – the hotel is steps from its vibrant nightlife and shopping scene. Enjoy the rooftop cocktail bar that even offers an outdoor pool.

Shop: In the Negen Straatjes area. This shopping area is located in the canal district and is full of narrow streets. These nine streets connects the main canals between Leidsestraat and the Jordaan district. You will find art galleries, cafés, restaurants, small boutiques and a lot of great vintage stores.

Walk: All over the city, or rent a bicycle.

Party: At Chicago Social Club – this night went straight to my list of my best nights out ever. The theme of the night was 90s R’n’B which was a pleasant nostalgic trip down memory lane.

Useful phrases!

Good morning – Goeiemorgen

Good evening – Goeienavond!

Thank you (very much) – Dank je / Bedankt (thank you very much= Heel erg bedankt)

Excuse me …! (to ask for something) – Mag ik even wat vragen?

Can you help me? – Kan je me helpen?/ Kan U me helpen? (polite)

Come with me! – Kom met me mee! ;-)

Alice in Paris

Screen Shot 2016-07-23 at 11.59.41I loved discovering this cute little series about Alice in Paris by Tastemade. Alice brings us around Paris, always on the look out for her next grandé food adventure. Sometimes she’s looking for the perfect eggs, other times she pretends to move into cozy cafés – Alice is definitely a charming reminder of Amélie.

This March I went on what can only be described as a trip of a lifetime! I have been wanting to visit Japan for such a long time, and this easter I finally went. What a trip it was! Here’s my video vlog from my trip to Tokyo, and also my favourite photographs. I might make a Tokyo guide with all of my favourite places this summer.
